Committees

Education

Coordinates the labour council’s educational programs.  Courses include labour law, collective bargaining, public speaking, economics and more. Programs are low cost and accessible.

In addition, hour-long “Pizza Educationals” are held every 3rd Tuesday of the month at 6:00 pm immediately preceding the regular VDLC meeting.  These free sessions on current issues are open to all, pizza is available by donation.

International Solidarity

Builds International relationships and hosts workshops and meetings with speakers and guests.The committee also oversees the VDLC’s adopt an organizer program which supports union activists in the Philippines.  In recent years the committee has organized delegations to Venezuela, China, Cuba, and the Philippines.

Labour Arts & Culture

Promotes the labour movement’s rich culture of the arts.

 

Political Action

Coordinates the vetting and endorsement process for municipal election candidates and participates in lobbying.

Provides support for workers and unions engaged in labour disputes.

Women’s

This women only committee organizes an annual International Women’s Day Dinner and offers educational programs for women.

Young Workers’

Brings together young workers (30 years and under) for education, discussion and support to develop skills, and gain experience in labour activism.
