2018 Philippine Tour – Donation Drive

September 25, 2018

The VDLC, BCGEU, and CULE are co-coordinating a solidarity tour to the Philippines from November 27 to December 7, 2018.  One of our objectives is to learn about the daily lives and struggles directly from the Filipino people, particularly those involved in the struggle for workers’ and other human rights in the Philippines.

Can’t attend the tour but still want to support?

As union members and/or affiliates, you can help to support the people of the Philippines through our Philippine Donation Drive.

The VDLC, BCGEU, and CULE plan to visit several different communities during the Solidarity Tour.  Some of these communities are in need of specific material support that they have requested. Donations gathered will either be brought by the delegation, or shipped in time to arrive for the trip.

Materials requested by our Philippine partners

Schools supplies for a daycare:

Primary school books (new or gently used), pencils, crayons, pencil crayons, pens, erasers.

For worker’s communities that we visit:

General toiletries such as those normally provided at hotels such as shampoo, conditioner, soap, lotion, etc.  This is easier to be divided up to individuals in the different areas we plan to visit.

Financial donations:

Monies collected will go towards equipment needed to assist workers around health and safety issues in their workplace.  The financial donations will be used to buy the equipment in the Philippines.

For financial donations, please send cheques payable to the “Vancouver & District Labour Council”, Suite 170 – 111 Victoria Drive, Vancouver, BC, V5L 4C4, and put Philippines Donation Drive in the memo.

In-kind donations can be dropped off at the Vancouver and District Labour Council.

We will gather donations up to October 31, 2018.

In Solidarity,

Stephen von Sychowski
