ABC Kills Motion to Reinstate Living Wage

February 28, 2024

In a callous, shameful decision, Mayor Sim and his fellow ABC council members voted against OneCity Councillor Boyle’s motion to reinstate the city’s living wage policy. This means there will be no living wage recertification for 2024, and lowest paid workers will continue to fall behind.

We would like to thank Councillor Boyle for her tireless work and leadership on this issue, as well as Green Party Councillors Fry and Carr for their long-standing, strong support of living wage. Today, these three councillors stood up for, and with, this city’s workers, when nobody else at council would.

We would also like to thank everyone who spoke at council today, sent a letter, attended the townhall, volunteered, and in so many different ways contributed to this campaign. That also includes all the organizations with whom we had the pleasure of collaborating on this effort.

We will continue to fight for living wages for all, and an affordable, equitable, and resilient city for everyone.
