DTES JUC Continues to Advocate for Workers and Community

April 1, 2020

As noted in our March 24th open letter to Premier John Horgan and Mayor Kennedy Stewart, the VDLC recently began convening a Joint Union Committee composed of unions representing Community Health and Community Social Service workers in the Downtown Eastside.

The new JUC has now met several times and continues to advocate for the protections outlined in the letter for DTES workers and residents. We were able to secure a meeting with Mayor Stewart to hear about the efforts that are currently underway, and to express our perspectives and concerns. We will continue this work and ensure that labour’s voice is at the table throughout this pandemic and will post additional updates as appropriate.
