Joey Hartman is past-president of the Vancouver & District Labour Council.
Her experience as a labour and community activist began 40 years ago on the picket line during a 14-week Vancouver area civic strike in 1981. From there she worked on staff with several unions, including almost 20 years with the Hospital Employees’ Union.
Throughout, Joey found ways to engage in her other passions and to weave them into her work – labour history, international solidarity and broad based community organizing.
Since retiring in 2018 Joey stays busy with governance work and as a facilitator for labour education. In addition to WELLS, she serves on four other boards; as chairperson for Vancouver Community College and the BC Labour Heritage Centre, and as an elected board member with Pacific Blue Cross and the Council of Canadians.
