Job Steward Level I – Via Zoom
The position of job steward is the most important position in a union and is often the first point of contact a member has with their union. You stand with and speak for your fellow members in the day-to-day relations between the union and management in your workplace. This course will lay the foundation for your understanding of the responsibilities of a job steward and will help broaden your understanding of the labour movement.
Facilitator: Jason Woods, President – ILWU Local 400
Jason spent his adult life on the BC waterfront, first as a fisher, learning the struggles of maritime workers and through exposure to the militant UFAWA. He would go on to coastal tugboats and wrote his Transport Canada Captain’s license. Jason knew he would spend his life fighting for safety, health and dignity for seafarers. He has served for the last 4 years as President of ILWU 400 Marine Section and General Workers and is an executive member of the VDLC Executive board. Jason has led to the fight against substandard tugboat operations, challenging government and industry to improve legislation, regulations and culture of the industry.
Job Steward Level II is on Tuesday April 16
