Job Steward Level II – Via Zoom

This Steward Level II course will build upon the framework of steward skills established through the completion of the Steward Level I course. In addition to a review of the basics, this course will offer a deeper focus on knowing your membership, working with your union executive, grievance preparation, problem solving, conflict resolution and representation skills.

Completion of Job Steward Level I is recommended in advance of this class. Participants are encouraged to have their collective agreement available to them during the class, if possible.

Facilitator: Jason Woods, President – ILWU Local 400
Jason spent his adult life on the BC waterfront, first as a fisher, learning the struggles of maritime workers and through exposure to the militant UFAWA. He would go on to coastal tugboats and wrote his Transport Canada Captain’s license. Jason knew he would spend his life fighting for safety, health and dignity for seafarers. He has served for the last 4 years as President of ILWU 400 Marine Section and General Workers and is an executive member of the VDLC Executive board. Jason has led to the fight against substandard tugboat operations, challenging government and industry to improve legislation, regulations and culture of the industry.
