Health and Safety in the Downtown Eastside During COVID-19

July 17, 2020

The VDLC, through our Downtown Eastside Joint Union Committee, continues to bring together affiliated unions representing community health and community social services workers in the DTES.

Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, this Committee has been meeting and engaging with government to press for urgent actions to improve safety and fairness for DTES workers and residents.

Our most recent correspondence, sent to Minister of Social Development and Poverty Reduction Shane Simpson and Minister of Labour Harry Bains, can be viewed here:

We are calling for further action to address the dual emergencies that threaten the DTES, and people across the province; COVID-19 and opioid overdoses.
