May 1st Rally at Vancouver City Hall

On May 1st at 5:00pm, labour and community groups will rally at Vancouver City Hall to mark International Workers’ Day, and raise our voices for living wages, renter rights, and an affordable, inclusive city for all!

“Many people are concerned with the trajectory of our city under the new ABC majority,” says VDLC President, Stephen von Sychowski. “May 1st is International Workers’ Day, a day for solidarity of all workers – locally, and globally. So, what better day to raise our voices together.”

Speakers at the rally will include representatives of the Canadian Union of Public Employees, Vancouver Tenants Union, Women Transforming Cities, Canadian Drug Policy Coalition, and more. Councillors Boyle, Carr, and Fry, will also bring greetings.

“A key focus for us this May Day is the living wage,” says von Sychowski. “This city council made a closed-door decision to walk away from its commitment to the city’s lowest-paid workers. This is a question of priorities, and we will keep pressing on this issue until working families are put back on the priority list.”

All are welcome at the rally, which will also include a performance by the Left Coast Labour Chorus. The rally will begin at 5:00pm, and conclude by 6:30pm. More information can be found at https://vdlc.ca/events/may-day-rally/
