No Space for Hate: September 20th
On September 20th far-right extremist groups are organizing a so-called “1MillionMarch4Children”. Promoted cynically as having the objective of “protecting children”, their real aim is the promotion of anti-LGBTQ2S+ hate.
Over 80 locations have been announced across the country for these hate rallies, most taking place on the 20th and a few on other days of the week. It’s crucial that we all speak up and take action to oppose the rise of anti-trans bigotry and those who are stoking it; whether they be fringe conspiracists, or mainstream conservative politicians.
We know that these reprehensible actions will make this a difficult week for many members of our unions and communities. Let’s stand in love and solidarity with all of those impacted by these events. Everyone deserves safety and dignity.
The labour movement is, and must be, a movement for all workers, regardless of gender identity, sexual orientation, or any other immutable characteristics. We fight for the same in our workplaces and communities. An injury to one, is an injury to all.
We encourage you to read the excellent statement from the BC Federation of Labour, and join your local counter-protest on September 20th. In Vancouver, the counter-protest takes place at Vancouver Art Gallery, 750 Hornby Street — 12 noon. Facebook event here.
