Progress on Indigenous Land Acknowledgements at Sports Events

June 11, 2019

Last month we proposed that an Indigenous land acknowledgement should be included in the opening ceremonies of sporting events.

We wrote to BC Lions, Vancouver Whitecaps, Vancouver Canucks, and Vancouver Canadians regarding this, as well as to Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh nations.

So far we’ve received word from BC Lions that they will start including acknowledgements just prior to the introduction to the National Anthem!

We also received word from Whitecaps that they would like to discuss the proposal further with the nations, so we are very hopeful about that development.

We look forward to working with everyone on this going forward!
