Solidarity with CULR!

October 16, 2019

Staff of the Canadian Labour Congress represented by the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Local Lodge 3111 Canadian Union of Labour Representatives went on strike on October 15.

The dispute centres around concessions to harassment policy language, the pension plan, and fair wage increases. At our regular meeting the same evening we heard from representatives of CULR and passed the following recommendation in support of them:

Subject: Support IAMAW LL 3111 CULR

BECAUSE the International Association of Machinists Local Lodge 3111 Canadian Union of Labour Representatives has been engaged in collective bargaining with the Canadian Labour Congress for nearly two years, since the expiry of its collective agreement on June 30, 2017; and

BECAUSE the union is resisting concessions to harassment and bullying language and pension, and seeking modest wage increases to keep pace with inflation; and

BECAUSE bargaining has reached impasse, with a final offer having been voted down by the union membership last week and picket lines going up on October 15,

THE VANCOUVER AND DISTRICT LABOUR COUNCIL WILL express its support for the Canadian Union of Labour Representatives and call upon Canadian Labour Congress President Hassan Yussuff to return to the bargaining table and negotiate a fair collective agreement that will bring an end to this dispute.

Support is welcomed at the CULR picket line located at 5118 Joyce Street in Vancouver.
