VDLC Endorses City of North Vancouver Incumbents

January 19, 2022

The Vancouver and District Labour Council has endorsed City of North Vancouver Mayor Linda Buchanan, and City Councillor Angela Girard for re-election.

“This election is about who will lead the city in the crucial years of the pandemic recovery, and what priorities they will set in doing so,” says VDLC President Stephen von Sychowski. “We appreciate the progressive leadership demonstrated by Mayor Buchanan and Councillor Girard. We know that they understand the need to put people first by protecting the programs and services we all rely on, and addressing urgent issues such as housing, climate change, and reconciliation.”

While Mayor Buchanan and Councillor Girard’s previous endorsements in 2018 meant they were the first to be vetted for continued support, the Labour Council will consider additional endorsements over the next few months. These may include City Council incumbents who were not previously endorsed, new candidates, and candidates for School Board.

“We need candidates who bring diversity, progressive values, and bold ideas to address the challenges we are facing,” von Sychowski says. “Our goal in every municipality in our district is a progressive majority committed to standing up for working people and families and leading us into a just recovery that centers people, equity, affordability, resilience, and sustainability.”

The Labour Council’s next regular meeting will be held on Tuesday, February 15th.
