VDLC Endorses Mayor Kennedy Stewart for Re-Election

The Vancouver and District Labour Council is endorsing City of Vancouver Mayor Kennedy Stewart for re-election in 2022. Delegates representing local unions affiliated to the Labour Council voted in favour of the endorsement at their December 14^th regular meeting.

“We are excited to continue our support of Mayor Stewart,” says VDLC President Stephen von Sychowski. “The mayor shares labour’s progressive values and is a proven fighter for working people. He has accomplished a great deal to make life better for the people of our city. We appreciate the positive relationship we have had with him, and the leadership he has demonstrated on many important issues.”

Mayor Stewart announced his intention to seek re-election back in 2020 and showed strong support in a poll sponsored by the Labour Council earlier this year. “Mayor Stewart is poised to win a second term and continue to lead the city through the crucial period of the pandemic and recovery,” says von Sychowski.

The Labour Council is currently in the process of reviewing incumbent candidates for potential re-endorsement and intends to announce further decisions following its January regular meeting.

“We’re looking across party lines for a diverse array of candidates who are committed to moving the city forward. Our goal is a strong progressive majority that will stand up for working people and families and lead us out of this pandemic with a just recovery that centers people, equity, affordability, resilience, and sustainability.”
