VDLC Endorses Vancouver City Council Byelection Candidates

February 25, 2025

The Vancouver and District Labour Council (VDLC) has selected the candidates who will receive its endorsement in the April 5th City of Vancouver byelection. The endorsements were determined at the council’s regular meeting, on the evening of February 18th, by delegates representing its affiliated unions.

“The VDLC is proud and excited to endorse both Lucy Maloney (OneCity), and Annette Reilly (Green Party of Vancouver),” said President Stephen von Sychowski. “Both Lucy and Annette are leaders in the community who know how to get things done. They are committed to working cooperatively to hold the ABC majority accountable, and to be voices for the working people of this city.”

Both OneCity and the Green Party opted to run only one candidate each in the byelection, signaling a continuation of the cooperative approach the two parties have demonstrated on city council during this term of office. Outgoing Councillors Christine Boyle (OneCity), and Adriane Carr (Green Party of Vancouver), had also both been endorsed by the VDLC.

“Vancouver City Council lost two fierce, effective, progressive voices in recent months. Along with Pete Fry, Christine and Adriane have held ABC’s feet to the fire, and been champions for housing, affordability, living wage, the climate, and all the issues we care about,” von Sychowski said.

The VDLC will be actively campaigning to elect its endorsed candidates, with a focus on getting out the union vote. “It would be impossible to overstate the importance of replacing Christine and Adriane with new champions who will continue their good work. Annette and Lucy are those champions,” von Sychowski said.
